"Journalism in Challenging Times"
A Vital Conversation on the Crisis Facing Local News
Local journalism is in a state of crisis in New York, where between 2004 and 2019, 40 percent of local outlets shuttered and many more have seen their resources slashed. Now, in a state with a budget bigger than 90 percent of the world’s countries, 17 counties are down to just 1 newspaper, making it more difficult for the public to hold elected officials accountable, or agree on shared sets of information.
Join us for an urgent discussion on the future of local news at "Journalism in Challenging Times." The event, featuring a presentation by veteran New York journalist Rex Smith (followed by a Q&A), supports the groundbreaking reporting of New York Focus, the nonprofit newsroom that is dedicated to uncovering how the state really works.
Tickets are $20 and 100% of proceeds benefit NY Focus.
