A group series of workshops for caregivers and family members of autistic children run by a autistic speech pathologist.
About this Event

Who is it for?

  • This program is aimed at caregivers who may have recently identified that their child is autistic. It may also be helpful if you are new to the therapy journey, feeling unhappy with your therapy journey so far, want to learn more about neurodiversity, or would like to connect with other caregivers.
  • The group is also for other family members who may be involved in caring for your autistic child, or who may be a source of support for your child. The more your family understands your autistic child, the more support they can receive from your family as a whole.
  • With each ticket, up to 2 support people for the same child can attend. This could include parents, caregivers, family members, support workers, or anyone else who is a source of support for your child or family.
  • 3 to 7 families will be in the group (up to 15 people).
  • The content of the course will best suit those with autistic children aged up to 12 years old (before high school).

What is involved?

  • Attendance at 6 in person workshop sessions with other caregivers.
  • You can choose to attend individual workshops, however your benefit from the program will be greatly improved if you attend each session as the content flows on from each session.
  • If you wish to attend a single workshop the price will reflect the single workshop time.

Why should you attend?

  • Unlike individual therapy sessions for your child, a caregiver-only training group focuses on empowering you! When you invest in your own growth and knowledge as a caregiver, you are ensuring that your child is in a neurodiversity nurturing environment now and in the future.
  • Participating in the sessions will also help you develop the knowledge to access appropriate and safe supports for your child, and become a more confident advocate for your child's needs.

When:

  • Sessions 1 to 5 are 2 hours in length, the final session is 1 hour.
  • Sessions run from 10am - 12pm, with the exception of the final session which runs from 10am to 11am.
  • Each session will include a 10 minute break. Tea and biscuits are provided.
  • Sessions are completed every Saturday for 6 weeks.
  • Current dates are on weekly Saturday mornings:

25th May, 1st Jun, 8th Jun, 15th Jun, 22nd Jun, & 29th Jun 2024.

Where:
