National Theatre live is coming to Sofa Screenings!

To expand our horizons of what we offer at Sofa Screenings, we wanted to bring some more dramatics to our screens. Our first venture into the world of theatre is the latest performance of David Ireland’s The Fifth Step, starring Oliver Award winner Jack Lowden and Emmy and BAFTA winner Martin Freeman.

We follow Luka, a young man entering a 12-step Alcoholics Anonymous programme, and his new sponsor, James. The two men build their friendship on fragile ground, sharing their experiences of addiction as Luka advances through the programme. But as Luka approaches the fifth step - a step focused on confession, dangerous truths are unearthed that threaten to derail both men’s recoveries.

Ireland’s play is scathing in its exploration of faith in one another and in a higher power, yet keeps a lighter, comically driven tone that shows the light in the darkest parts of ourselves. Directed by Finn den Hertog and filmed live from Soho House on London’s West End.
