This semester, the North Shore Community College Players invite you to a shimmering and witty production of Pierre de Marivaux’s classic comedy, Harlequin Schooled in Love.
The fickle Fairy Queen is destined to wed her perfect match—the formidable sorcerer Merlin. But, then again, perfection can be so awfully boring. While wandering the woods, she stumbles upon Harlequin, a young man who is as handsome as he is... well, simple. Captivated by his raw potential (and undeniable good looks!), the Fairy shrugs off her impending nuptials and abducts him instead. Her plan? To "refine" this rustic fool into the sophisticated, witty husband of her dreams.
Despite the Fairy’s relentless tutelage (and lavish gifts), however, Harlequin remains frustratingly unawakened—until a chance encounter with Silvia, a charming shepherdess from the nearby village, ignites an unexpected spark. In a single heartbeat, Harlequin discovers something the Fairy’s magic could not teach him—the thrill of true love!
Suddenly, Harlequin’s wits awaken, his spirit is emboldened—along with a determination to escape the clutches of the powerful enchantress. But how can two simple sweethearts outsmart a woman who can bend reality to her will? Can true love survive the jealous fury of a spurned sorceress?
