This NRA FIRST STEPS PISTOL class is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation to a specific pistol platform. This four-hour class is ideal for beginners, new purchasers and those contemplating a purchase of a pistol. This training provides beginning shooters with an introduction to the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to own and use a pistol safely. This class is ideal for all and especially for families, couples, women, youth (10 and older), and groups! Free for youth ages 10-17.
This course includes classroom and live-fire range time learning to shoot a specific pistol action type. We are able to cover revolvers and semi-automatic pistols as well as different types of sighting systems. We focus on the needs of the students in the class. Students will learn the NRA rules for safe gun handling; the particular pistol model parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students receive the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure and NRA FIRST STEPS PISTOL Course completion certificate.
AIM-COMM and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) Hunter Education Indoor Shooting Range (HEDR), in Fairbanks, Alaska, work cooperatively to host and conduct NRA FIRST STEPS PISTOL Classes for the public.
Course Fee (normally $115.00): $65.00 paid in full at time of registration or FREE for youth students (ages 10-17).
Costs for this class are partly covered (-$50 per student ages 18 and older and -$115 for youth under 18) by AIM-COMM, the Alaska Interior Markmanship Committee, as part of our mission and purpose to foster the development of marksmanship, the safe and ethical use of firearms and to support youth education and marksmanship opportunities in our community.
AIM-COMM is able to provide more training opportunities for the community and reduce some course fees as a direct result of financial support from our permittee contract relationship with the gaming operator of Lotto Alaska.
