About this Event

The Uyghur American Association, in collaboration with George Washington University, is pleased to present a public humanities festival celebrating the shared observance of Nowruz and Eid al-Fitr. For the Uyghur community, this rare convergence of seasonal and spiritual renewal offers a meaningful opportunity to reflect on identity, memory, migration, and belonging.

Through a curated program of lectures, facilitated conversations, and cultural performances, the festival will present Uyghur culture not only as celebration, but as a living humanities tradition—one that carries history, ethical values, and collective meaning across generations. Using Nowruz as a cultural anchor, the program will explore connections between land, heritage, and community life, while examining how displacement, diaspora, and the experiences of younger generations growing up outside their homeland continue to shape Uyghur identity today.

Each segment will be followed by guided dialogue, inviting audiences into thoughtful reflection, open questions, and cross-cultural exchange. This gathering aims to foster deeper understanding while honoring the resilience and richness of Uyghur cultural life.

We will also be hosting vendor stands for a Central Asian bazaar for participants to shop at in between sessions.
