The host band will differ in each session and will play a short set of music to start the night before inviting guests up to play. Depending on jammer numbers, the host band may also play a couple of tunes to end the night.Those interested in getting up to jam are asked to bring their own instrument (see below for provided backline) and sign up on the sheet provided (by the stage) and/or speak to the jam manager/host (Beau Stocker). Please have a few tunes to suggest when signing up so as to include as many other players as possible. There will be a 3 tune limit per person depending on how many participants there are.
Once the jam begins the host will let you know who's playing. Please be aware that this is not an "Open Mic" and those who have signed up to play are expected to have a general working knowledge of common jazz repertoire.
Underage (under 18) students of jazz music are welcome to attend and also to bring their instrument to play (see below for provided backline) but are asked to remain in the “GSJS Young Artists Hang” section at the end of the bar when not on stage (look for the poster).
We will try to have everyone sit in but please don't be discouraged if the time runs out and you are not invited to play. There will always be a great opportunity to join in the hang!
Provided backline Instruments (depending on host band):
Upright bass, guitar amp, keyboard, drums/cymbals, and microphone will be provided. Please get in touch to confirm specific backline instrument requests.
