We’ll observe the extraction process and learn about the variety of binders and mordants that can be used to achieve different results. Then, we’ll play with pigments made from locally foraged materials on handmade fungi and seaweed paper.

About the instructor:
Sophie Anna Gibbings is a regenerative artist working in collaboration with nature using different mediums including printmaking, alternative process photography, painting, sculpture, and performance. Sophie walks, observes, collects, and listens to discover artmaking materials that can be returned to the Earth, without any harm. She is interested in what happens to the materials after and beyond their time on display, and how this consideration might help regenerate ecologies. Her works are ephemeral, about letting go of control. They are an expression of her spiritual practice and her creative practice, as we all come from nature and return to nature.
