About this Event

Welcome to our Nourish & Flourish Beginner Series! A neighborhood kitchen class for chefs from ages approximately 5-10+, or any youth who needs to understand the basics of kitchen prep, following a recipe, and clean-up techniques. The class will offer chef's proper safety rules for the kitchen, and appropriate handling techniques for the tools used for the day.
Family members are welcome to stay and participate! Chefs age 5 need a chaperone to attend with class.

*This class features an urban farm tour where chefs will learn about how to compost, collect fresh eggs, and discover a worm farm!

This beginner course offers jr chefs an easy rue recipe to create at home, and add what is available in their own kitchens to create a delicious creamy, reduced fat pasta sauce. Traditional ingrediants such as garlic, fresh herbs like tyme, and any cheese in the refrigerator can bring together day old noodles to an elevated bowl of pasta anyone can create. Say NO to packaged powdered cheese/seasonings from this class on!

On Arrival:
Please arrive 15 min early so that all chefs are prepared to work in the kitchen on time, this includes preparation such as washing hands, wearing proper attire(each chef receives an apron to use for class), as well as visiting the learning spaces.
Chef's will start the class outside to view the garden and harvest any ingredients required for the menu, and then come inside to prepare the meal. After clean-up, time to enjoy the menu we made together between 3:30-4:00pm w/samples. Student pick-up is after class between 4:00-4:30pm and chefs will be given their serving of the menu to enjoy for dinner with their families at home.

The menu:

Pasta Bowls: Fresh spinach pasta from the farmers market, olive oil, flour, garlic, low fat milk, Boursin cheese, fresh cherry tomatoes.

Curly Kale Salad: w/ grilled organic Peaches & Honey Lemon vinaigrette: Honey, lemon, dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, salt.

Italian Lemon Ricotta Cookies: featuring fresh Ricotta cheese, organic lemon, fresh local eggs, baking usuals, fresh vanilla pod.
