About this Event
Join David Sloly, one half of Lux Nova, for a talk and listening session exploring how sound can reveal hidden patterns and musicality within data drawn from space phenomena.
Lux Nova reveals the hidden musicality within systems, objects and processes, making the invisible audible.
Built using datasets from NASA and the European Space Agency, Notes from Your Universe draws on data from solar storms, the Voyager 1 mission and high-energy particle activity. The project explores what can be heard when information usually encountered as data is approached instead as sound.
Part scientific translation, part musical composition, the work uncovers structure, movement and relationships within phenomena far beyond ordinary human perception. The result is an immersive, meditative soundscape in which hidden structures and relationships become perceptible as music.
David will introduce the ideas behind the project, share aspects of the creative and technical process, and play an extract from the work.
