About this Event

This workshop will be presented by Dr Danielle D’Hayer who is an Associate Teaching Professor in Interpreting Studies, and Head of Community and Business Engagement at London Metropolitan University. She is the course leader for the MA Conference Interpreting, MA Interpreting and the interpreting short courses that include a Training the Trainers for Interpreting Studies programme and a portfolio of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities.

Dr Danielle D’Hayer has a strong interest in public service interpreting and conference interpreting. She funded the PSIT Network in the UK in 2008. She works as a consultant in curriculum development for interpreting studies and led a number of projects such as the implementation of the Ohrid Framework Agreement in Macedonia, as well as the Inspire project with the University of World Diplomacy and Economy (UWED) and the British Council in Uzbekistan.

She is internationally renowned for her approach to hybrid experiential learning pedagogy empowered by an inclusive egalitarian community of practice model, where students ‘learn within a community by caring, giving and sharing’.

This is a series of two workshops dedicated to note taking for consecutive interpreting in the context of public services.

Title for workshop 2: Note-taking for consecutive interpreting: what to note down and how.

This second workshop dedicated to note-taking for consecutive interpreting follows the first that explored how active listening enhances memorising. During this second session, we will move away from the words and focus on the idea and its structure. We will then focus on what to write down, and how to reformulate.

In this workshop, we will explore how active listening and concentration enhance the way we memorise information for the purpose of consecutive interpreting, and more specifically in the context of public service interpreting.
