About this Event
This community gathering is intended for sharing and bearing witness to stories of hope, healing, and humanity. The event is on January 15 from 6-8:30pm at The Epiphany Center for the Arts at 201 S. Ashland Ave.
The theme for this event is “Transitions.” Transitions is about the chapters that open and close, the beginnings and endings that shape us, and the seasons that change as we move through our lives. We’re celebrating the crossroads—the shifts, pivots, and unexpected turns that mark the moments between who we were and who we’re becoming. The evening will feature between 7-10 stories (around 5 minutes each) centered around the theme. We are hoping to bring stories from beyond the medical school, including the entire health care workforce, non-medical members, and more. Come ready to listen, share, and bear witness to your community's inner world. There will be open-mic opportunities!
Who is Northstar Narratives? We are Andrew Mohama, Sam Shih, Caroline Wang, Regan Curtis, and Catie Bates. We are friends and medical students at Rush Medical College. Inspired by early, formative liberal arts education, the trials of our medical training, and a purely indulgent obsession with the magic of the spoken word, we aspire to bring together a diverse group of healthcare professionals to share their stories with one another. Even being at the beginning of medical training, there are ample moments where we are met with a glaring temptation to neglect physical and emotional needs in exchange for the pursuit of yet one more hour of studying, servitude, or action devoted to successfully progressing towards our future roles as physicians. While so many of us are in closer proximity to suffering, genesis, disease, and innovation than we have ever been before, in some ways, we can find ourselves farther still from what it really means to see and protect the soul of another human being.
It is our hope that this shared space will foster connections and creative energies in ways new and profound. All are welcome! Please spread the word and reach out to us if you want to share a story or know of anyone who may have a story to share.
