Hi friends and neighbors! First of all, my apologies for not reaching out sooner with more information! We are proceeding with plans for the route to go down Hamilton Avenue from Ashtree to Palm Avenue.
Although many compromises have been made this year, we were able to keep the majority of the route entact. We are so excited to press go on our plans and with your help, make this year's parade the best it can be! Here's the vital information about the day of the parade that you can share with your group.
IMPORTANT CHANGE!! In order to (attempt to) beat the heat, this year's parade will start on Thursday, July 4th, 2024 at 11am. We will also have bottled water, shade, and a fan available in the staging lot to help you stay cool.
GET TO THE STAGING LOT BETWEEN 9-10: Because of this earlier time, we need all entries to be at the staging lot at Bethlehem Temple Church (4781 Hamilton Ave) between 9-10am, so we can arrange the order of the parade.
DON'T PARK IN THE STAGING LOT: There is no parking allowed in the staging lot, and any cars left there after the parade leaves will be towed at the owner's expense.
TAKE THE SHUTTLE OR THE BUS: Shuttle service from McKie Recreation Center will be between 9-10 am. Please do not bring anything on the shuttle you can't fit on your seat. There is street parking near Mckie on Chase Avenue and surrounding sidestreets, just check for No Parking signs. McKie and Chase Elementary School lots are also available for parking off of Turill Street, but keep in mind that Turill may be difficult to exit from until 2pm. You can also take the Metro bus lines 17 or 27 which stop close to the staging lot before 10 am.
DURING THE PARADE:Do not throw items from floats, this is dangerous and we don't want anyone to get hurt. If you have items to distribute, please plan to do so by handing them to the crowds. Do not have flammable items on your floats, please!
FLOATS!: Floats have to abide by city fire code and will be inspected that morning in the staging lot. If you have a float, you must have a fire extinguisher in your vehicle! We received some clarification from Captain Arnold, so if you have specific questions about your float don't hesitate to reach out.
AT THE END OF THE PARADE: Please note that the parade ends at Palm Avenue, just 1/2 block short of Blue Rock. Floats leaving northside will be directed out of Apple Street to Blue Rock, while those needing to unload will be directed toward Chase via Apple and Turill.
An additional email will be sent in the days before the parade that will include details about the weather forecast and your lineup number.
Additional details:
· Bring sunscreen, water and food for your people and animals. You won't have access to running water in the staging lot.
· Do not apply glitter, confetti, or other materials that are difficult to clean up in the staging lot. If you need to apply messy products to your person or vehicle, it MUST be done before you arrive.
· There will be two port-o-lets and an accessible restroom at the staging lot.
· Please pick up all trash in the staging lot before you leave for the parade route.
· Be considerate about causing large gaps in the parade – please maintain spacing while also maintaining a safe speed.
· If you have an animal in your entry, you must pick up all poop, horses require bags on their rears.
· We encourage you to review the Humane Society's guidance regarding pets in hot weather. We strongly encourage booties or other paw coverings for any dogs, or leave them at home.
