Norma Winstone is considered one of the most versatile British jazz vocalists. After studying at Trinity Music College, she began singing in London's East End in the 1960s and made her first recordings with Michael Garrick. In addition to jazz standards, she developed her own wordless approach to improvisation within the avant-garde.
In the 1970s, she became known with the ECM trio Azimuth (with John Taylor and Kenny Wheeler), which recorded several influential albums. Her current trio with Glauco Venier and Klaus Gesing presents an eclectic repertoire that combines compositions, covers and free improvisation.
This Masterclass is co-organised by our KCB professor Jazz; Bart De Nolf.
