A vintage horror film night with The Norfolk Folklore Society and Reel Connections. She escaped death. Now it wants her back... Join the Norfolk Folklore Society for a haunting night of spectral cinema as we present Carnival of Souls (1962), Herk Harvey’s eerie cult classic of life, death and the liminal spaces in between.
After surviving a car accident, Mary Henry tries to start anew - but something has followed her. Shadowed by a pale stranger and drawn to a deserted fairground, she begins to realise that the world of the living may not be where she belongs.
Low on budget but rich in atmosphere, Carnival of Souls is a masterpiece of dreamlike dread that went on to inspire The Night of the Living Dead and Twin Peaks.
Before the screening, Stacia Briggs and Siofra Connor of the Norfolk Folklore Society will introduce the film, exploring its folkloric themes and eerie influence, while Shuck Zine artist Matt Willis will display his haunting artwork in the gallery.
Expect ghostly music and a DJ set before and after the film.
Presented in collaboration with Reel Connections and Cinema City.
Film duration: 90 mins.
