Free Food, Indigenous Tejano culture, and planting nopales! Come!
About this Event
In celebration of Indigneous Peoples Day, We will share a bit about the Indigneous People of Texas, talk about the importance of the Nopal and the Tamal.
Come get yourself a Tamal as we plant nopales and learn about Native Texas Plants that can potentially fight against cancer and climate change.
Nopales are an edible plant that has been traditionally consumed in Texas for thousands of years.
This event will be held at the Tamōx Talōm Food Forest at Padre Park. This is a community-based project focused on educating the community about how we can all grow our own foods within an urban context.
And we can do it without toxic chemicals and harmful practices that disrupt the native habitats by using ancient indigenous gardening practices and contemporary permacultural ideas.
