✨ 12-hour training over one weekend, held at the edge of a forest in Frelighsburg (Eastern Townships – 1 hour from Montreal).

This workshop is a direct plunge into Physical Theatre. Participants will develop characters through movement and object manipulation and discover a dramaturgy unique to each of them. Great importance will be placed on physicality and on the unexpected. We will explore a series of exercises and games designed to build trust and group cohesion and collaboration. We will focus on practical skill, through specific improvisation, using a range of exercises aimed at building a shared creative language: Laban exercises; animals; colors; rhythm; punctuation; and group listening work focused on impulses. We will explore goals in scenes with obstacles to reach it. Together, we will create a story composed of several scenes (the collage technique) using the tools we will have explored. We will work through dramaturgy from every angle, shaping and reshaping our collage of vignettes. The structure includes solo, duo, and group work. I will also introduce you to one of my favourite tools: the musical score!

🔹Artist
Manon Beaudoin is a director, writer of theater and circus as well as a performer and teacher of physical theatre. Manon is the co-creator and director of Amarrâble (company Foutiyayaï) and Le Cabaret au Bout du Monde (Cirque Eloize) at Îles-de-la-Madeleine. She produced and directed The Ballad of Niall McNeil, a western musical web-series. She has adapted a theater/circus/operetta version of The Nutcracker and The Mouse King at The Caravan Farm Theatre in BC (2019, 2023). Manon has worked for Le Cirque du Soleil as a creator for Michael Jackson One at Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas; Pan Am Games Opening Ceremony in Toronto; Futuroscope in France and big-top show Volta. She was a core member of the acclaimed wordless masterpiece The Overcoat (CanStage), a hit in festivals around the globe and co-creator of Flying Blind (Canada and Australia.) She helped create eight shows for Vancouver’s enduring cult hit Leaky Heaven Circus and was co-founder of an all-woman circus, Cirque Poule. Her plays The Queen of Hearts and The Bloody Clean-Up or the Lamentable Tale of Marie Antoinette have been produced in Canada. She now lives in Montreal and Magog in the Eastern Townships.

Nous sommes (brimbalante.com) un centre de formation et de création en art clownesque et disciplines connexes. Un OBNL établi dans la magnifique contrée de Frelighsburg, (1h de Montréal, 1h20 de Sherbrooke). Nos formations, spectacles et résidences de création se déroulent dans une yourte géante et baignée de lumière (32 pieds de diamètre, 809 pieds carrés) à l'orée d'une forêt, et à distance de marche du noyau villageois. Brimbalante a pour mission de ré-enchanter le monde au moyen des arts vivants, en libérant la poésie fougueuse des clowns.
✨ Accessibilité
Le travail ici proposé est en général assez physique, quoique certains ateliers spécifiques sont plus restreints sur ce plan. Cela dit, si vous présentez une limitation importante sur le plan physique, il peut s'avérer possible de participer à certaines de nos formations. Nous souhaitons pouvoir vous accueillir adéquatement, alors il serait important de communiquer avec nous afin de bien comprendre votre réalité et d'être transparent·e·s quant à nos infrastructures et aux dynamiques d'enseignement. La voix peut être sollicitée comme outil d'expression. Elle n'est pas toujours présente dans les exercices demandés, le corps et les émotions demeurant au premier plan.
Les formations que nous offrons peuvent être rendues accessibles aux personnes sourdes si un·e interprète est présent·e, et que cette personne comprend que la musique est parfois utilisée par les formateurs·trices, et que les autres participants peuvent recourir à la voix et aux mots.
