About this Event

NoMa Run Club, in collaboration with Altra Running, the Running Industry Diversity Coalition, and Haraka Run and Walk, is excited to bring you this trail running experience in the heart of Rock Creek Park.

This is not a race. In fact, taking your time will probably make for a better time! This event is designed to get you acquainted with some of the many trails that are right here in DC and to introduce you to other folks in the area who are also interested in trail running.

Never been trail running before? No problem! We all start somewhere, and this could be the beginning of a whole new chapter in the story of your running career.

Runners will check in at Picnic Grove #6, receive a brief overview of the route and safety considerations for the run, split up into small groups, and begin the 3.8-mile Main Loop.

Upon returning to Picnic Grove #6, runners will have the option to complete the 1.6-mile Extra Loop or remain in Picnic Grove #6, where light refreshments will be available.

Altra will have trail running shoes available for runners to demo on a first-come, first-served basis.

Registration is required. Space is limited. See you there!

Schedule

9:30am: Check-in begins

10:00am: Announcements, route overview, safety briefing, and split into groups

10:10am: The run begins

1:15pm: All remaining runners have finished and must begin departing from Picnic Grove #6

1:30pm: All runners and volunteers have departed, and Picnic Grove #6 is left as it was found

Where we'll be running

Beginning just southeast of Picnic Grove #6, the 3.8-mile Main Loop (elevation gain: 408ft) follows the Valley Trail north, takes the fork to the right at the Holly Trail, and turns left at the T with the Pine Trail. The route continues straight onto the Valley Trail, which leads back to Picnic Grove #6.

Starting just northwest of Picnic Grove #6, the 1.6-mile Extra Loop (elevation gain: 208ft) heads west on Cross Trail #5, follows the Western Ridge Trail to the left, then turns left at the T with the White Horse Trail, and turns left again at the T with the Black Horse Trail. This will return runners to the point at which they entered the Extra Loop.
