No Rules: A Zine Workshop by AiR x Studio

This “No Rules” zine workshop invites participants to explore creativity and self-expression through playful making. Create freely, reconnect with your inner child, and experiment without rules.

The workshop takes place ahead of The Performance of Adulthood, an exhibition by Sanjeeve Gunaratnam exploring the tension between adulthood and play. Through sculpture, furniture and multimedia installation, the work constructs an imagined world centred on the “Square-vilian,” a character navigating a surreal, “play-fessional” environment shaped by routine and restraint.

Developed during a nine-month residency at Birmingham City University, the exhibition reflects a process of experimentation across sketches, prototypes and material testing.

Welcome and introduction

5:15 – 6:15
Zine making session with guided prompts

6:30 – 7:30
Exhibition talk by Sanjeeve Gunaratnam followed by open viewing

Prompts include:
• What did you love making as a child?
• What did you want to be before the world told you otherwise?
• Draw your safe place
• Create using only colour and shape

All materials will be provided. No experience needed.
