Take your first step into outdoor navigation with the NNAS Bronze Navigator Course – a nationally recognised award designed for beginners and improvers. Over two practical days outdoors, you’ll build the skills and confidence to explore hills, trails, and moorland safely using just a map and compass.
This is hands-on, practical training focused on quality learning rather than speed or endurance.

Walkers who want to gain navigation confidence
Outdoor enthusiasts looking to explore beyond well-marked paths
Anyone interested in progressing to Silver or Gold NNAS awards
Suitable for ages 14+ (under 18s must be accompanied by a parent/guardian)
What You’ll Learn
Reading and understanding OS & Harvey maps
Setting the map to ground by eye and compass
Grid references, contours, landmarks and symbols
Measuring distance, pacing and timing
Route planning and hazard awareness
Taking basic compass bearings
Strategies for navigation in varied terrain and conditions
Group and personal safety outdoors
All successful participants will receive an NNAS Bronze e-certificate.
What to Bring
Walking boots or trail shoes
Waterproof jacket & trousers
Warm layers, hat and gloves
Rucksack (30L recommended)
Map & compass (can be provided if required)
Packed lunch, snacks and water
A full kit list will be provided after booking.
