On May 1, 2025, four bands entered the gladiator pit of the Crazy Horse Saloon and only one came out standing. These were the top selections by judges determining who would compete for a coveted opportunity to play the High Sierra Music Festival. The final band to play that night was a largely unknown up-and-comer from Quincy, CA (conveniently the home of the festival). With some tough acts to follow, they proceeded to captivate the crowd and the judges with their almost indescribable, genre-redefining performance. It started as, “WTF is this!?” To, “I can’t get enough of this.” After making a splash as the opening band of their home festival, NIGHTBRAIN returned to the Crazy Horse last August and their identity came into sharper focus. Beginning as two friends exploring music therapy in a cabin in the woods, NIGHTBRAIN has grown to a six-piece project, tapped in to a vein of ingenuity and a multi-layered foundation of groove.
NIGHTBRAIN unfurl a blend of moody groove, psych-rock, Latin-hued global exotica and soulful chill-hop. Haunting female vocals from Suzanne de Martimprey emblazon the mood with a slithery, retro allure. Think Portishead in the Copacabana with a female David Byrne on a designer drug administered by a Nordic shaman.
