March 19 & 20 — WOW Hall — Eugene, OregonSpring Equinox Gathering • 60 Years Since the Pico Acid Test
Sixty years ago, a hand-drawn flyer on Pico Boulevard asked a simple question: Can you pass the Acid Test? It wasn’t polished or commercial, it was an invitation — to step inside the music, to blur the line between stage and room, to experience sound as something expansive and alive.
On March 19 and 20, as the Spring Equinox turns us toward the light, The Garcia Project brings that spirit back to WOW Hall with two full nights of classic Jerry Garcia Band music, performed with the patience, dynamics, and healing tone that made those original shows feel like release, communion, and joy all at once, joined by the Psychedelic Express Light Show, filling the hall with liquid color and motion that moves with every phrase.
This annual two-night gathering is a celebration of the love, music, and joyful mischief shared between Jerry Garcia — Captain Trips — and the Merry Pranksters, a friendship and creative spark that helped shape an entire movement. It’s about that playful spirit, that sense of exploration, that fearless blending of art, sound, poetry, and community.
When the groove settles in and the room softens, when the highs shimmer and the bass feels warm and grounded, when a ballad opens and time stretches wide, that’s where the magic lives. The songs unfold naturally, the solos speak, the harmonies lift, and for a few hours the outside world fades. That is the experience we’re committed to recreating — not as nostalgia, but as something living and present.
Original Pranksters and Neo-Pranksters are invited to gather with us. We are honored to share that OG Pranksters George Walker and Ken Babbs are confirmed to participate. We’ve also heard from many others who are planning to join in some form. These beautiful souls are elders now, and travel, health, and life itself can shift plans at any time, so participation will unfold organically. Whether on stage, in the room, or simply present in spirit, their influence and legacy are woven into this weekend.
Expect music, storytelling, poetry, light, color, laughter, and that unmistakable Garcia feeling that softens the edges and opens the heart. Expect community. Expect a room full of people who understand why this music still matters.
The Equinox marks balance, renewal, stepping forward into something brighter.
Two nights, two complete classic Jerry Garcia Band shows, sixty years of history in the air, Eugene in the spring, liquid light dancing across the walls, and a community coming together not just to watch, but to feel.
