Step aboard HMS Caroline, for a mouth-watering talk with historian and author Ian Miller. Discover how food, health, and nutrition shaped life in the Royal Navy. The talk also explores vital links with the home front, where families faced rationing. By connecting life at sea with life ashore, Ian Miller reveals how the struggle to feed a nation shaped the daily experiences of sailors and civilians alike.
The event will entail a 45 minute talk by Ian Miller in the historic surroundings of HMS Caroline. Following its conclusion guests will then be treated to a rare late-night self-guided tour of the historic spaces of HMS Caroline to see where the crew worked, slept and ate, finishing at the ship's original galley dating from 1914.
