The dementia component of the NHS Health Check
National research highlights that 52% of adults name dementia as one of their top three health worries. Whilst 28% have no awareness of any of the risks factors and only 2% are aware of all the things they can do to reduce the risk.
The dementia element to the NHS Health Check programme enables healthcare professionals to talk to their patients about how they can reduce their dementia risk, such as by maintaining their social life, keeping mentally and physically active and stopping smoking.
This free half day training course has been developed to support NHS Health Check practitioners to support them with the dementia component of the check.
Aim: To improve NHS Health Checks practitioners confidence and understanding of the dementia component of the NHS Health Check.
Objectives:
· To refresh existing knowledge of the dementia component of the NHS Health Check.
· To explore the barriers of discussing dementia and support practitioners to develop their confidence in risk reduction and raising awareness that ‘what is good for your heart is good for your brain’.
· To support practitioners to effectively provide the dementia component for patients aged 65 and make use of the resources available.
