Exhibition OverviewThis curated series of Glass, resin and Wood showcases contemporary Māori designed artworks envisioned by the artists from the Kohatu Marama collab artists Arama Davis ( Wood Carver), Susan K Louie (Glass Artist) and Maha Tomo ( Pounamu and resin Artist)
Each plaque is rendered with surface textures derived from whakairo (traditional Māori carving), capturing the wairua (spirit) and movement of Aotearoa’s indigenous design motifs. The forms evoke natural elements – flowing awa (rivers), swirling hau (wind), and celestial koru (unfurling life) – channeling connection between the seen and unseen realms in a positive colouful way.
These works are not merely decorative—they are mana-enhancing objects that reflect the kaupapa of Kohatu Marama Collaborative
“To honour the power of ancestral design while forging spaces for modern indigenous excellence.”
Each taonga is a window into the energies of Nga Tae o te Wairua the colours of Spirit
