Next to Normal is a 2008 American rock musical with book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey and music by Tom Kitt. The story centers on a mother who struggles with worsening bipolar disorder and the effect that managing her illness has on her family. The musical is rated PG-13 and addresses grief, depression, attempted suicide, drug abuse, ethics in modern psychiatry, coming of age, familial dysfunction, and the challenges of married suburban life.
This award-winning Broadway musician boasts both a Pulitzer Prize in 2010 (a rare feat for a musical) and three Tony Awards in 2009, including wins for Best Actress, Best Orchestration, and Best Original Score. Scored for a small ensemble with Violin, Cello, Guitar, Bass, Piano, and Percussion, this show has a vibrant and emotional score with songs that ranges from folk and heavy rock to classical and more traditional modern musical theater.
We are thrilled to welcome some incredible local performers to join us in this project: Diana: Liz Brooks, Dan: TJ Hovest, Natalie: Remi Hinde, Gabe: Illyana Illguth, Henry: Sean Adams, Dr. Fine: Kori Glenn, Dr. Madden: Wesley Sonnemaker, Orderlies/ensemble: Timothy Hall, Sha Winchester and Faith Burns
