NEWSIES May 17th 2:00pm
Get ready for an exciting afternoon as Adventures in Education presents: Newsies on May 17th at 2:00pm! Step back in time at the historic Meroney Theater, and come and witness our talented cast bring to life the captivating true story of the newsboys' strike of 1899.
When powerful newspaper publishers raise prices at the newsies expense, Jack Kelly, and the newsies, along with the reporter Katherine, rally together with kids from across the city to create a movement to fight for what's right. Based on the 1992 motion picture and inspired by a true story, Newsies features a Tony Award-winning score featuring the now classic songs “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” and “Santa Fe,” Newsies is packed with non-stop thrills and a timeless message, perfect for the whole family and every audience.
- IMPORTANT - The Cheerwine Festival will be held on Saturday, May 17th, from 10 am to 7 pm. Parking areas and streets around the theater will be inaccessible, so there will be no personal drop-off. Various parking lots will be available in the surrounding area, and free shuttles will take you to designated drop-off spots, about a 6-minute walk from the theater. Plan accordingly for mobility limitations and allow time to reach the theater for showtime. Consider making a day of it, enjoying the free festival activities and food (visit cheerwinefest.com for details), then take a break and enjoy the show. Dinner can be had around town before catching the shuttle back to your car. Shuttle service ends at 8 pm.
Parking/shuttle locations are: RCCC and Catawba College. Livingstone Culinary on Jake Alexander Blvd is the designated ADA parking location.
