Members of the Vienna Chapter of the New Yugoslav Studies Association* invite Vienna-based scholars, researchers, students, and others interested in academic study of the space once designated by the borders of Yugoslavia (before, during, and/or after) to the third gathering of our community, this year designated a Non-Conference, to be hosted at Central European University. We call it a non-conference because it’s not about research presentations but more about establishing and maintaining links across Vienna’s various academic institutions, disciplines, and areas of focus. Our non-conference will start with an interdisciplinary roundtable discussion on current developments in studies of the (Post-/Pre-) Yugoslav region in relation to scholarship in different fields. Our guests, Catherine Baker of the University of Hull, UK, and Eli Krasniqi, University of Graz, will be joined by two Vienna-based colleagues (TBA) at the roundtable for contributions and general discussion. After this session, participants will move to thematic panels in smaller groups based on their research interests, where they can get to know other colleagues working on similar topics and engage in more specialized discussions. A final session will be organized as a modified “World Café”, where participants are invited to discuss specific topics in small groups.
Please register for the event by March 31st by sending a short bio that indicates your research interest (up to 300 words) in a .docx document to [email protected]. The event is free of charge; no registration fee is required.
Also, feel free to specify what your personal goals, motivations, and expectations for this workshop are and to suggest specific topics for the World Cafe session (e.g., the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna, Balkan Route migration, race and racism, the Non-Aligned Movement, and so on).
