The DC Bushwick Book Club is excited to be back at Georgetown Library for Pride Month presenting an afternoon of new works inspired by When the Tides Held the Moon by Venessa Vida Kelley. When the Tides Held the Moon is a beautifully illustrated, queer historical fantasy about Benigno “Benny” Caldera, a young, Boricuan immigrant and blacksmith who is commissioned to build a massive, ornamental, ironwork tank. He soon discovers that the tank is actually a cage designed to hold the Coney Island sideshow's newest, secret exhibit: a living merman captured from the East River. Benny is hired to look after the merman, Rio, but finds himself falling in love.

The Bushwick Book Club is the joyous intersection of indie artists and book nerds. Started in 2009 in Bushwick, Brooklyn, NY there are now 8 active local chapters around the word. The DC Chapter started in 2022.
This event is free and open to the public. It is suggested for audiences 14 and up.
