Set in the 1970s, after months of study, discipline, and preparation, a group gathers for the final ceremony. The symbols are precise, the geometry exact, the belief unwavering. Every movement deliberate. Every word rehearsed. Every participant convinced it will work.
At the ceremony’s climax, something pivotal happens.
In the aftermath: fear, suspicion, private motives surfacing.Was it a tragic coincidence, or did their conviction open something they can’t control?
As doubt spreads and loyalties fracture, the group must decide whether to abandon what they began or see it through - and face whatever follows.
The Ritual is a psychological drama with supernatural elements about grief, power, guilt, and the unsettling force of collective belief.
Blending intimacy, dark humor, and the supernatural, it asks:
When belief becomes powerful enough to change reality, who controls what’s unleashed?
ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
The Ritual is written by Rob Cuperus, a performer with the Wow Effect theatre group for the past five years, now presenting his first original play and directed by Luvil González, known for her atmospheric, psychologically rich productions that blend movement with striking visual language.
WOW-EFFECT Theater is an international English-language theatre collective based in Nijmegen, bringing together performers from multiple nationalities to create original productions for the local community.
