What is Yoga Nidra?
Yoga Nidra is an ancient meditation practice that utilizes the body's natural sleep process to access a deep state of consciousness for restoration and healing. Through this practice, you will experience a unique combination of awareness and profound relaxation, allowing your mind to enter healing alpha and theta brain wave states. This enables the body to naturally restore itself and balance the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, counteracting stress and promoting a calm and relaxed state.
What to Expect?
The session begins at 6:00 p.m. MST and lasts one hour. The first 15 minutes are dedicated to gentle movement and intention setting, and the rest of the time is dedicated to Yoga Nidra meditation and gentle drumming.
Yoga Nidra is typically done lying down on the floor. Chairs are available upon request.
The Vitalize Community Studio has plenty of yoga mats, bolsters, blankets, cushions, and blocks available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please turn off your phone during class to create a peaceful atmosphere.
What to wear?
Body temperature typically drops during deep meditation, so wear something comfortable like sweatpants. I suggest bringing a sweater and a blanket if you tend to feel cold easily. Please bring socks or slippers to wear in the studio if you prefer not to be barefoot. I also recommend bringing an eye pillow or mask.
About the Sap Moon:
March provides the perfect conditions for the sap in trees to turn into starch and then sugar. The constant freezing and thaw cycles help create the sugar. Sap to a tree is like blood to a human, it delivers all of the nutrients a tree needs to live. Sometimes life might seem like a constant fluctuation of overwhelming change, but we can choose to grow from the tough times and sometimes we can even make sugar out of the experience.
