Join us for our April Speaker Series on insect conservation!
New Mexico supports a high diversity of insects and other arthropods. Global insect declines due to human activities have been documented world-wide, and now here in New Mexico. This presentation provides information on the current status of New Mexico insects, on the ecological characteristics of our insects, on reasons for our high diversity of insects, along with examples of recent human caused declines and efforts to conserve New Mexico insects threatened with extinction.
Dr. Lightfoot is an Assistant Research Professor and the Senior Collection Manager for the Division of Arthropods, Museum of Southwestern Biology, at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM. He has been conducting research on insect taxonomy, ecology and conservation across New Mexico for over 40-years.
