About this Event

Hello, Hello all
So what could we do on a beautiful Spring day you are asking ? Well just one thing, HIKING by the sea with the loveliest people you know and of course, maybe have a swim for those who fancy... Join me on a brand new trip, tried last year with a lovely group of guinea pigs who enjoyed it with a lot of laugher. We will be on the cliff top for most of the time, so you will have some gorgeous view of the English Channel and we will end our trip in the historical town of Folkestone, a gorgeous town that has managed to keep its old days atmosphere and where you will be given the opportunity to have a dip in the sea at the end of the trip if you fancy and if the weather allows.

Folkestone is a port town on the English Channel (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_Channel), in Kent (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kent), south-east England (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/England). The town lies on the southern edge of the North Downs (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Downs) at a valley between two cliffs. It was an important harbour and shipping port for most of the 19th and 20th centuries. There has been a settlement in this location since the Mesolithic era (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mesolithic_era). A nunnery was founded by Eanswith (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eanswith), granddaughter of Æthelberht of Kent (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%86thelberht_of_Kent) in the 7th century, who is still commemorated as part of the town's culture. During the 13th century it subsequently developed into a seaport (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seaport) and the harbour developed during the early 19th century to provide defence against a French invasion.Folkestone & District Local History Society - A Brief History of Folkestone (folkestonehistory.org) (https://folkestonehistory.org/index.php?page=a-brief-history-of-folkestone)Capel-Le-Ferne is a village. Its name derives from the phrase "Chapel in the Ferns" It is perched on top of the White Cliffs of Dover and is a historical place that holds the memorial for the battle of Britain. The Battle of Britain Memorial (https://www.battleofbritainmemorial.org/)So guys, what a better way to start the weekend? With a hike, by the sea and as usual, a meal or a drink afterwards. We have found a delightful little Thai restaurant last time with a Juke Box that played Barbie Girl on replay as it was our song of the day...DELICIOUS food or we can try another if you wish to...
