What’s coming to South Florida this May isn’t just another race weekend—it’s something that feels different from the start. On May 16th and 17th at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Street Racing Made Safe (SRMS) and Formula & Automobile Racing Association (FARA) are coming together to introduce a Gymkhana-style drift series that pushes the sport into new territory. It keeps everything people love about drifting—the style, the angle, the control—but adds something that raises the stakes: TIME!
For the first time, drivers won’t just be judged solely on speed, style and angle. It’s a shift that transforms drifting from something purely expressive into something more structured, where instinct has to meet discipline. The result is a format that demands both creativity and control, forcing drivers to balance the art of the slide with the pressure of the clock in one course.
At the center of the weekend is a 32-car bracket built around tandem battles on the Speedway’s high-speed sections. Each driver will take turns leading and chasing—one setting the pace through designated drift zones while navigating the technical line as efficiently as possible, the other pushing to stay close, match angle, and maintain intensity. Saturday is dedicated to qualifying, where the field is narrowed down, and by Sunday, it all builds into head-to-head battles to crown the first champions of the series. To start we will offer 2 classes, a 300TW class presented by Cosmo Tires and a 200TW class so drivers remain competitive in their tire classes. Cosmo Tires will be giving away a set of 300TW tires to the winner of that class! We will also be giving away a set of 200TW tires for the winner of the 200TW class!
But what makes the weekend stand out goes beyond the competition itself. During the day on Saturday, South Florida’s car culture takes over with the “Car Club Invitational,” bringing together some of the region’s most passionate automotive communities. Instead of trying to limit the brands or builds that come out, we are focusing on the groups, the people behind them and bringing them together. Each group will have a coupon code to represent their and obtain a discount at registration. The group will be paid out per entry registered with the code with a $500 bonus to the group with the most amount of cars in addition to trophies for each group***. It’s more about presence, identity, and the shared love of cars that brings everyone together in one place.
As the sun sets, the atmosphere shifts into something entirely its own—FARA Nights. The track transforms under the lights, blending competition with culture, energy, and community. Under this nighttime setting, Street Racing Made Safe hosts roll racing on the straightaways—fast, controlled, and intentional. It’s part of a larger effort to give drivers a safe, sanctioned alternative to street racing while still delivering the adrenaline and excitement that defines it. The experience becomes more than racing; it’s a full evening environment where performance, lifestyle, and community come together.
Altogether, this weekend feels like the beginning of something bigger. By combining drifting, timing, structured competition, and now FARA Nights, SRMS and FARA are creating a new lane for the sport—one that respects its roots while pushing it forward and respected at the Motorsports Level. It challenges drivers in new ways, offers fans a deeper, more immersive experience, and creates the kind of weekend you’ll want to say you were part of from the very beginning.
