NEW DATE: (Ottawa) The Promise of Public Education Series

Join us for the next event in People for Education's multi-city series, Promise of Public Education: the role of public schools in nation-building.

Presented in partnership with the Global Centre for Pluralism, this event will explore the role of public schools in religious accommodation, institutional trust, and pluralism, exploring historical and present-day tensions and dynamics and what that means for education now.

People for Education's co-Executive Director, Paris Semansky, will moderate the panel discussion with the following experts:

• Joanna DeJong Van Hof, Director of the Education Program, Cardus
• Sharif Mahdy, CEO, Students Commission of Canada (SCC)
• Nathalie Sirois, Senior Manager, Education, Global Centre for Pluralism

The event will open with a context-setting presentation about the historical origins of public education in Canada from Dr. Jennifer Wallner, Associate Professor, School of Political Studies at the University of Ottawa.

The formal portion of the agenda will be followed by a networking reception where light refreshments will be served.

With a distinct policy theme focus, ranging from economic resilience to social cohesion to civic trust to climate readiness, each event will highlight how public education can contribute to strengthening Canada’s resilience and prosperity, and how public schools play a key role in nation-building.
