About this Event
Under the baton of George Osorio, Music Director, the Southland Wind Ensemble presents a program that includes compositions for wind band that have been composed/arranged within the last 5 years, highlighting the ever-changing direction of wind band music.
Featured Compositions and Composers:
The first work, Western Suite for Wind Band by Adrienne Albert, is an arrangement from the orchestral version and takes the audience through the American West with hints of Copland sprinkled throughout. This performance is the wind band premiere of this new arrangement!
The second work, Your Eyes Turned Skyward by Andrew Bukowsku, is a newly-composed work for wind band, composed specifically for the Southland Wind Ensemble. We are performing the World Premiere of this work with the composer in attendance!
Through the Dark Times, by Tyler Mazone, is an excerpt from his Symphony No. 1, which features mixed meters and a reflective section near the end, allowing the audience to think about the beginning and mimic real-life experiences.
Finally, Andres Luz’ Bulosan: On American Democracy is a major work for wind band that focuses on the compositional technique of the passacaglia and variations. The work also incorporates a narrator, which will be executed by Isaac Gonzalez, who’s narration of Peter and the Wolf and Lincoln Portrait captivated the audiences at their respective performances.
Most of the composers will be in attendance and will be hosting a post-concert talk to discuss their work and engage with those in attendance. Please contact George Osorio at [email protected] for further information and RSVP.
ADMISSION IS FREE, but donations are appreciated so that we may continue programming and presenting concerts to the audience.
