About this Event

Neurodivergent individuals are significantly more likely to experience persistent pain and a range of pain-related conditions. This professional development workshop, informed by lived experience, explores the intersection of neurodivergence and pain. It will equip you with knowledge and practical strategies to deliver neuroaffirming, trauma-informed care that enhances well-being and reduces barriers to effective treatment.

What you will learn:

  • Understand neurodivergence, specifically focusing on Autism and ADHD.
  • Explore the science of pain in neurodivergent populations.
  • Understand the impact of masking and camouflaging on pain perception and mental health
  • Understand the principles of neuroaffirming and trauma-informed care.
  • Identify strategies to overcome barriers to positive healthcare experiences for neurodivergent clients
  • Apply strengths-based approaches to pain management for neurodivergent clients
  • Learn how to use energy accounting to support the client and your own wellbeing

About Rob:

Dr. Rob Schütze is a clinician researcher specialising in pain management, with dual appointments as a research academic and clinical psychologist. He is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Population Health and Curtin EnAble Institute, focusing on research relating to: interdisciplinary biospychosocial interventions for pain and chronic health conditions; mindfulness and yoga interventions; blended clinician-led and digitally enabled pain care; pain education for health professionals; and psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy. He currently holds a Raine Clinician Research Fellowship and is a chief investigator on several industry-funded and MRFF research projects. Clinically, Rob works as a Senior Clinical Psychologist in the Multidisciplinary Pain Management Centre at Royal Perth Hospital. Rob also works as a yoga/meditation teacher at Yoga Space Perth.
