Learn how the brain is organized by dissecting a sheep brain and exploring the fundamentals of neural circuits.
About this Event

In this 2 hour neuroscience crash course, we will address these questions by learning the fundamentals of neuroanatomy and neuroplasticity. The lecture and discussion will be accompanied by a hands-on sheep brain dissection and exploration of brain samples under the microscope.

Throughout the class, we’ll connect neuroscience to everyday life so that participants leave with a greater understanding of their own brain and behavior.

In this workshop:

  • Perform a guided dissection of a sheep brain
  • Explore human and mouse brain samples under the microscope
  • Handle models of neurons to learn how they send messages to each other

Meet the Instructor

Milena Kozlowska (she/her) is a neuroscience researcher, writer, and artist who is endlessly fascinated by the brain and behavior. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Neuroscience from Northeastern University and has worked in a variety of neuroscience research labs, exploring the brain from the micro to the macro. Her research has included topics such as the neuronal circuits involved in fear and anxiety; the effect of psychedelics on connection and plasticity within the brain; and the use of music therapy in neurorehabilitation for children with brain injuries. When not in the lab, she can often be found hiking in the mountains or creating artwork inspired by neuroscience and nature.
