At this session, we welcome back Chef Jenny Dorsey who is eager to share about her recently completed paper examining hawker policies and her friend, Daniel Mahadzir, whose opinion piece on the Straits Times examined the significance of hawker centres in promoting longevity in Singapore.
Jenny Dorsey is a professional chef, author, and food studies educator studying food as the foundation of human meaning-making and identity formation. She is currently a Fulbright National Geographic fellow researching hawker centres with the National University of Singapore. A James Beard-nominated food writer with the newsletter "Way Too Complicated," she's been recognized as a Food & Wine “Changemaker” and World's 50 Best “Trailblazing Activist.”
Daniel Mahadzir is an Innovation Fellow at the SingHealth Duke-NUS Global Health Institute where he leads initiatives that connect climate science, public health, and systems innovation particularly across Asia-Pacific. He believes that as Singapore refines its national longevity agenda through programmes such as Healthier SG, the hawker centre must be seen as a primary ally, not a passive backdrop.
Each ticket includes a complimentary drink and free entry to Zouk post-event.
