Come join us at the Brackendale Art Gallery for a night of fun and learning. Our event will feature three speakers who will share their nerdy passions with you.
Located at 41950 Government Rd, Brackendale, BC V0N 1H0, Canada, our venue is the perfect spot for a cozy night of intellectual stimulation. Whether you're a seasoned nerd or just curious, there's something for everyone at Nerd Nite Sea to Sky!
Doors open 6:30, event starts 7:00. Food is served from the BAG's awesome kitchen until the end of intermission. Wrap up about 9:00.
Topics for this Nerd Nite
For our last Nerd Nite of 2025, we will be featuring the following topics:
- We're all gonna die! Have a conversation with Dr Brenda Millar of SeatoSky PalliativeCare Service as she discusses what it means to be "Palliative" ,what is hospice care and what's the scoop with Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID)?
- Distant Touch: Sensing and Control in Experimental Media: Dr. Bob Pritchard (Emeritus UBC School of Music, UBC Institute for Computing, Information and Cognitive Systems) researches e-textiles, infra-red tracking, controlled lighting, and force sensing for use in performance. Besides discussing the technologies, he will present excerpts from some of his interactive works for music, dance, and speech synthesis.
- Sound Medicine & Piloting the Human Animal: Let's get a nerdy about what it means to be a human! We're going to start by visiting 17th century France and the philosopher René Descartes, then maybe swing over to ancient India and the sage Patanjali and their famous Yoga Sutras, and finish off with a tool to better care for ourselves in this human experience: sound.
