A masterclass on digital skills to support creative, heritage, and community projects in North East Lincolnshire.
About this Event

Digital tools and platforms play an increasingly important role in how heritage, community, and cultural organisations operate, from engaging audiences and sharing stories to managing projects and improving internal ways of working. The range of digital tools available to us is huge (from social media to email newsletters to short films, digital databases and accounting software), which can be both exciting and daunting.

This fourth workshop in the Heritage Toolbox: North East Lincolnshire programme focuses on digital skills for creative working, offering practical, inspiring, and confidence-building support tailored specifically to heritage and community contexts.

This event is taking place at The Black Gull Cafe, Grimsby Docks.

Commissioned by Create North East Lincolnshire and delivered by Heritage Lincolnshire and the Heritage Network, the Heritage Toolbox programme brings together local and national organisations to share knowledge, build connections, and strengthen skills to support sustainable heritage and cultural activity in the region.

This session will explore how digital approaches can help you to work more creatively, reach wider and more diverse audiences, and make the most of your existing capacity and resources. We’ll look at realistic, accessible tools and approaches that can be adapted to organisations of different sizes, skills levels, and budgets.

The workshop will combine practical learning, real-world examples, and shared discussion, creating space to reflect on what digital working could look like for you.

By the end of the workshop you will:

  • Feel more confident using digital tools to support your heritage and creative work, helping you to work smarter and more effectively.
  • Have a new range of exciting, practical ideas for digital engagement, communication, and storytelling in your project, organisation, or historic site.
  • Have heard a range of examples, experiences, and insights, from those in North East Lincolnshire and across the UK who are using digital tools in their own work.
  • Be better able to choose digital approaches that fit your organisation or project.
  • Be connected with people at different stages of heritage work and make the most of the opportunity to share challenges, ideas, and solutions with peers working on projects like yours.
  • Have taken part in a relaxed, interactive, fun session on filmmaking for heritage and try out some of your new skills on a tour of the Grimsby Historic Docks.

Who should attend:

Whether you’re managing a heritage site, driving forward a community project, or simply passionate about the region’s history, this is a valuable opportunity to learn, share, and collaborate. This programme has been designed especially for:

  • Not-for-profit heritage organisations and community groups
  • Cultural, creative, or community organisations who have found themselves working from historic buildings or spaces - where heritage might not have been part of your work, mission, or objectives so far
  • Staff teams, trustees, and volunteers
  • Heritage professionals and practitioners
  • People involved in caring for, managing or advocating for heritage in North East Lincolnshire

Build Skills, Connections and Confidence Across Five Free Workshops

To get the most out of the Heritage Toolbox programme, we encourage you to attend all five sessions. It’s fine if this means different colleagues attend different sessions, but we’ll aim to build a cohort of supportive practitioners who complete the programme together.

Our workshop programme is:

  • Workshop 1 – Setting Up for Success, Centre 4, Grimsby, 26th March
  • Workshop 2 – Building Inclusive Creative Communities, Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre, Grimsby, 15th April,
  • Workshop 3 – Meet the Funder: How to Secure Funding for Your Heritage or Community Project, Cleethorpes Coastal Light Railway, Cleethorpes, 15th May
  • Workshop 4 – Digital Skills for Creative Working, The Black Gull Cafe, Grimsby, 4th June
  • Workshop 5 – Running Impactful Projects, Cleethorpes Memorial Hall, Cleethorpes, 8th July

We aim for all of our events to be inclusive, safe spaces where everyone's views and experiences are respected. Please read our code of conduct for more information.
