Access & Inclusion – Creating Welcoming Sporting ClubsCreating welcoming, inclusive sporting clubs is essential for strong participation, volunteer engagement, and long-term sustainability.
Session Two of the Active Clubs Network focuses on Access and Inclusion, supporting sporting clubs to better understand barriers to participation and identify practical ways to make clubs more welcoming, accessible, and inclusive for all community members.
This session explores how clubs can create environments where people feel safe, valued, and supported — whether they are players, volunteers, families, or supporters. The focus is on practical, achievable actions that clubs can implement regardless of size, capacity, or resources.
Participants will gain practical insights into:
• Understanding common barriers to participation and engagement
• Creating inclusive club cultures that welcome diverse abilities, backgrounds, and life circumstances
• Improving access to information, facilities, and club activities
• Supporting inclusion through clear policies, communication, and behaviour expectations
• Strengthening community connection and participation through inclusive practice
Like all Active Clubs Network sessions, this workshop is:
• Beginner-friendly and jargon-free
• Practical and solution-focused
• Led by experienced facilitators
• Designed around real-world club scenarios
This session is ideal for committee members, coaches, volunteers, and club leaders who want to strengthen participation, improve engagement, and ensure their club is welcoming to the whole community.
