About this Event
Explore the serene grounds, located near the border of Hamilton Heights and Washington Heights, which are the final resting place of many well-known New Yorkers — politicians, artists, architects, musicians, and more. Visit notable graves and stop and smell the (centuries-old) roses: The cemetery is the flagship site of New York City’s Heritage Rose District.
Local historian Eric K. Washington will lead a 1:30pm tour of the Westerly Division notable graves including those of John Jacob Astor, Eliza Jumel, and Dr. David Hosack, who tended to Alexander Hamilton after his duel. Rosarian Chris Gordon, of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, will share insights about the unique rose varieties, many of which are no longer commercially available or nearly extinct, also at 1:30pm.
Plus, enjoy a 3pm rose propagation workshop, light bites, and jazz from JAZZ HOUSE KiDS as you get to know the community.
We hope to see you in the Heights!
Registration for this free event is highly recommended. Admission is first-come, first-served, with ticket holders receiving priority (although not guaranteed entrance if the venue reaches capacity).
