Register online at: https://maineshakers.com/event/needlepoint/In this workshop, you will learn some of the pros and cons of different blends of wool yarns that can be used in needlepoint. The main stitch we will be working with is a modified “basket weave stitch” which our instructor, Liz Hall, developed nearly 40 years ago. This stitch will be used throughout your needlepoint as you create your own unique pillow design with various colors of wool yarns.
We will begin the workshop with stitching a sampler using the basket weave stitch with different colors, textures, and weights of wool yarn as you become familiar with the needlepoint canvas. You will then plan out your design and start stitching your pillow.
Liz will talk about methods of finishing your pillows at home.
All materials will be supplied, just bring your eye glasses!
Liz has studied fiber arts at the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, Weaving and Sculpture; University of NH, Weaving; and University of San Francisco, Design & Graphics. Liz says, “Exploration of wool initially introduced me to knitting and weaving, which over time led to the engaging engineering of needlepoint in new ways other than the traditional small tight stitches like Mosaic Stitch, Diagonal Mosaic, Gobelin Stitch. Self discovery is a true stride to the creative learning process.”
