About this Event
This workshop will introduce participants to the revised Foundations resource guide and explore the domains of development. Participants will receive a digital copy of the NCFELD manual. Bring a lesson plan with you to assist in activities.
Fees cover the cost of the CEU and snacks/water. Participants are welcome to bring a lunch with them if desired, but we will not have time for anyone to leave and pick up something. Lunch will be a working lunch (to be as effective with our time as possible).
Learning Outcomes:
- Define what a learning expectation is and why we have and use learning expectations.
- Identify North Carolina Foundations for Early Learning and Development (Foundations) by name, explain the structure by which the expectations are organized, and identify for what age groups they are written.
- Demonstrate how Foundations reflects what is known about childhood development.
- Explain that goals for any age level describe expectations that many children will reach toward the end of their respective age level.
- Create scenarios that reflect how expectations are embedded in everyday practice.
- Describe how Foundations can be used for differentiation and individualization, and to help children with cultural, linguistic, and ability diversity.
- Explain how Foundations is aligned to the Common Core State Standards and NC’s Essential Standards but do not require teachers of younger children to teach those standards.
- Create a plan for communicating with parents and other stakeholders about how Foundations reflects appropriate expectations for young children.
