About this Event
Navigating the Rent Petition Process Under the Rent Stabilization Ordinance
The City of Hayward Housing Division, in partnership with Project Sentinel, invites tenants and landlords to attend a free educational workshop on the Rent Review Process under the City’s Residential Rent Stabilization Ordinance (RSO).
This workshop is designed to help both tenants and property owners better understand how the rent review process works, when it applies, and how to navigate the process effectively. Participants will receive an overview of the procedures used to evaluate rent increase petitions, the roles of tenants and landlords during the process, and the steps involved from filing a petition to the final decision.
Topics will include:
• When the Rent Review Process applies under the RSO
• How tenants or landlords can initiate a rent review petition
• Required documentation and timelines
• What happens during mediation and hearings
• The role of hearing officers and how decisions are made
• and more
Whether you are a tenant seeking to understand your rights or a landlord or property manager wanting to ensure compliance with the ordinance, this workshop will provide practical guidance and an opportunity to ask questions.
