About this Event
Suzanne Churchill, professor of English at Davidson College, will present her research arguing that romantic notions of individual artistic genius are male-centric. Women artists often thrived in communities, fostered collaborative networks and grappled with gender, race and class. Churchill will reveal how Josephine Baker, Gwendolyn Bennett, Mina Loy and other key figures in a network of "Brilliant Exiles" contributed to the modernist revolution in literature and the arts.
This program is presented by the Greenberg Steinhauser Forum in American Portraiture.
