About this Event
~ Please note: This workshop open to People of Colour only ~
Peaks of Colour are so excited to announce 'Lyrical Landscapes', our Nature Writing Residency! Each year we will comission a Writer in Residence to create a nature-inspired piece of work for our community to enjoy.
Our 2024 Nature Writer in Residence is the incomparable Dal Kular. Dal is a Sheffield-based writer, mentor and facilitator who is passionate about nature-allied writing for healing, liberation and courage.
As part of her residency, Dal will be creating a Therapeautic Nature Journal - a hybrid publication that will aid our interaction and connection with our local landscapes. This stand alone walkshop is also part of her residency.
About the Workshop
First we will amble through the Longshaw Estate, until we reach the wooded enclaves of Padley Gorge. As we meander, Dal will offer interactive writing prompts that will support us to ground into the natural landscape.
The route will follow Burbage brook and lead us to the Moorland Discovery Centre, where we will have lunch in their garden area. After lunch, Dal will lead us in a Nature Writing and Zine Making Walkshop filled with nature-allied creative writing, collage, rest and conversation. Inspired by the local landscape we'll be exploring our connections with/as nature, healing and liberation and turning these explorations into words and text-based collages. Think readings, writing, making, cutting, re-arranging, sticking, colour and playful mess-making! You will also have the opportunity to contribute your words and art to the forthcoming Journal.
