About this Event
We are delighted to announce that we have been funded by West Midlands Combined Authority to run a month long project supporting their Nature Call to Action Campaign.
In house herbalist Maria Billington will be running 6 workshops during March to look at mapping the flora and fauna of both Gatis and the surrounding green space.
Each session will include different elements including: nature connection activities: nature art, mindfulness, treasure hunts etc, active plant mapping and identification, data recording: weather, flowering plants and habitat improvement: planting, bug houses, seed bombs, litter removal.
As part of the workshops she will be supporting Gatis Youth Club who have received a small pot of funding from Linnean to improve the green space next to the centre and put on a competitive litter picking community event and creating art and signs out of recycled materials.
Maria and Danii Pickin Youth Club Lead have decided to join the two projects up to create Nature Scientists and the Gatis Big Green Challenge.
Danii Pickin says “we’re really excited to collaborate with Maria as the call to action really adds to our existing project. Building on the education about nature and putting this knowledge into action, improving nature habitats and allowing the young people to take ownership of the local green space.
The workshops will run throughout March and culminate in a competitive litter pick on March 30th. This competition is open to anyone in teams of three and organised by Gatis Youth Club supported by Danii and Maria.
