About this Event
This walk will lead participants from the Ira Trailhead to the serene Beaver Marsh, which features a boardwalk that meanders through lush vegetation and calm waters. Dr. Ismail, Advisor to the Conservancy’s Nature Rx program, will guide participants through the walk while sharing the science behind mindfulness in nature.
What is a mindfulness walk? While we may be tempted to get our steps in or consider every walk a workout, a mindfulness walk invites you to slow your pace and employ your sense to take in the natural world around you. Mindfulness walks can take on many forms, sometimes silent or practicing breathwork. Other times, isolating one sense at a time. In these moments, you are encouraged to let go of the stresses of the day and simply enjoy the natural environment.
This walk will be under one mile in length. The trail is fully accessible via the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail.
Dr. Saira Ismail is a board-certified family physician with over 30 years of clinical experience. She is a graduate of NEOMED and spent her career in NEO. She was in private practice for over 25 years and is also the past medical director of NEOMED’s Free Clinic where she continues to mentor medical students and provides medical services for the under and uninsured patients. During her career she has learned how the natural environment impacts health and is enthusiastic about sharing her experience and knowledge with the Conservancy through the Nature Rx program.
Additional Event Details
Parking/Directions: Parking is available at the Ira Trailhead, located at 3801 Riverview Road, Cuyahoga Falls 44264. We will meet at the trailhead kiosk.
What to wear/bring: Please wear closed-toed, sturdy shoes that you do not mind getting dirty if conditions are muddy.
Weather: This is a rain or shine event, so please dress accordingly so that you are comfortable. In the case of severe weather (lightning, hail, storms, etc.) we will cancel or postpone.
Accessibility: This walk will be under one mile in length. The trail is fully accessible via the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail.
